My name is Jason Wheeler. I was born and raised here in Omaha, NE and graduated from Millard North. When I was 20 years old I put together a video for my grandfather’s funeral and realized I had a passion for film and capturing people behind the lens. That passion led me to Los Angeles where I went to film school and started my 15 year career as a Studio Grip. What’s a grip you ask? Simply put, it’s the team of individuals who light the set or rig an outdoor set to block the suns harsh light. I worked on hundreds of movies and shows including New Girl, Grandfathered, Switched at Birth, and Downsizing to name a few.
What brought me back to Omaha? Well, love and Cancer.
I met my wife when I was back in Omaha visiting. We did the the long distance commute for a year and a half before I asked her to marry me and to move out to LA. We got married on the beautiful beaches of Cabo San Lucas at sunset.
Amongst all of the excitement of starting a new life with my wife, my mother was diagnosed with cancer. Though it meant a career change, my wife and I knew we needed to make the move back to Omaha to be with my mom.
My wife and I now live in Elkhorn, NE and welcomed our baby, Josie Marie in March. We are having lots of fun watching her grow up and interact with our fur baby, Riggins.
I was also recently awarded 2020 Senior Photographer of the Year by the Professional Photographers of Nebraska!
